Denis Leary knows his strengths.
The 67-year-old actor, who has been married to his wife Ann since 1989, admits he has a penchant for doing odd jobs. “Listen, this is my thing. I’m a guy who can’t cook,” he tells PEOPLE for this week’s issue. “I grew up in the city. If you wanted food you might walk to the end of the street or call it in. But I was a dishwasher. It was one of my jobs when I was younger that I loved and I was good at it.”

Now when his wife cooks, Leary knows his role. “I can do the dishes, so I did that last night after dinner,” he adds. “If you don’t cook, you clean. It’s a good rule.”
Leary, who stars in Netflix Not a good deed and the new Fox series Go Dutchsat down with PEOPLE for One Last Thing:
The last time I sang out loud
Fifteen minutes ago I just sang ‘Alison’ by Elvis Costello. It’s also a great way to warm up my voice before performing live. I’m not a great singer. I’m a great shouter.
The last thing I learned about myself
As I got older, I realized that certain things don’t mean as much anymore – like I’m still a big sports fan, but losing doesn’t bother me. The most important thing will be your family and how they are doing.

Last superstition
When I get dressed to play hockey, everything goes on the left side, shin guards, skating, it all goes first. Then the right side. I’ve been doing it since I was a kid.
The last thing I do before I go on stage
The guy who usually introduces me couldn’t do that, so I said, “I’ll just do it myself.” It must be an inside joke.” A lot of people in the audience could see it, so it was like, “How big of an ego does this guy have?” Plus it made them all smile, so I guess that’s my thing now.
Not a good deed is now streaming on Netflix. Go Dutch airs on Fox on Thursdays at 9:30 PM ET.
