A new road sign in Jupiter, Florida is being blamed for causing road rage incidents at an intersection. It’s a bizarre claim, because last we checked it wasn’t inanimate objects that sparked verbal exchanges or violence on public streets. But people still blame the sign for arguments between drivers.
Angry over a lack of police work, a Camaro owner gets his stolen muscle car back.
As highlighted by local news station WPTV, the sign in question simply states: “No Turn On Red.” The same sign is used at intersections across the country. But it seems that because it was installed recently, some people feel that it should be ignored by others.
Many drivers are naturally impatient on the road. When someone does something that he thinks is getting in the way of getting where he needs to go, he gets angry. Sometimes these people decided to attack, verbally or physically, neutralizing a threat in their minds.
The intersection where the City of Jupiter installed the sign is at a railroad crossing. These types of intersections can be incredibly dangerous, so the measure was designed to prevent motorists from stopping on the tracks, putting them in serious danger.
But the people WPTV spoke to seem to believe the sign is an unnecessary annoyance because it wasn’t there before. However, there were others who think the new sign is a good thing because the intersection has been the scene of many close calls.
We have been to many intersections with ‘No Turning Red’ signs and have seen people blatantly ignore them. And we’ve seen drivers follow the sign, infuriating the people behind them in traffic.
What we don’t understand is why some drivers feel it is their right to angrily unload, whether by honking, shouting or worse, at other people doing things they don’t like. Do they seriously think that they never exhibit annoying or even dangerous behavior? After all, their road rage falls into that category. The irony is incredible, or you might even say infuriating.
What do you think about this sign being blamed for road rage?
