The Sultan of Brunei’s car collection, long shrouded in mystery, has been partially revealed through a series of leaked photos that have surfaced online. Brunei, a small country with just over 400,000 inhabitants, is home to one of the most extraordinary car collections in the world, owned by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. These leaked images, reportedly taken in 2001, offer a look at a wealth of supercars, hypercars and custom vehicles.
An Instagram account, Brunei_Cars_2001appeared seemingly overnight, posting never-before-seen images of the Sultan’s collection. In addition to the photos, the account is linked to a Google Drive folder with nearly 2,000 additional photos, giving car enthusiasts a rare opportunity to peek behind the curtain of this legendary collection.
The cars shown in the images are nothing short of spectacular. The Sultan owns several examples of some of the world’s most coveted vehicles. Ferrari F40? The collection includes at least eight. Porsche959? An entire row, each painted in a unique color. Bugatti EB110? Four, including one with an eccentric, custom-made interior. The McLaren F1, a car of which only 106 were ever made, is represented by eight examples, together worth an estimated $188 million.
And that’s just the surface. The images also show a staggering number of Jaguar XJ220s and countless other ultra-rare cars. The size and value of the collection makes even the famous car collection of the Rainbow Sheikh in Abu Dhabi seem modest in comparison.
The origins of the leak remain unclear and the Sultan of Brunei has not commented on the images. What is certain is that the sheer size and exclusivity of the collection is unparalleled, cementing its reputation as one of the largest car collections in the world.
